A mortar bomb landed in Egypt’s northern Sinai late Tuesday, Al Arabiya’s correspondent reported.

A military source said the attack in the provincial capital of al-Arish did not cause any casualties.

“The landing mortar bomb caused an explosion” near Al Arish Museum, the military source told Egypt’s daily al Masry al-Youm.

He did not give further details.

Following recent deadly incidents in Sinai, the Egyptian government has imposed a curfew scheduled to last for three months, in addition to creating a 5-kilometer buffer zone along the Gaza-Egypt border, which saw the eviction of many families from their homes.

The army has poured troops and armor into North Sinai to crush an insurgency that has surged since the ouster of Islamist President Mohammad Mursi.
