The labor correctional campaign has resulted in a number of Saudis finding jobs.

Announcing the positive results of the Nitaqat campaign, the Labor Ministry said: “Nearly 255,000 Saudis joined the private sector as a result of the freeing up of jobs.”

With more than 1.4 million employed work force, Saudis now make up 15 percent of the overall work force in the private sector.

The ministry reported a decrease in the number of visa requests in all sectors. The campaign has contributed to bringing down the visa requests by 31 percent.

Around 935,000 visa requests were submitted this year as compared to 1.3 million in the same period last year.

The authorities granted about 713,000 work visas. The private sector received 61.3 percent of the visas and the public sector 2.4 percent. The remainder were domestic work visas.

The private sector requested around 437,000 visas, indicating a decline of 279,000 requests in comparison with last year’s figures. The domestic labor sector filed 259,000 requests, showing a decline of 95,000 requests, while the government departments sought 95,000 visas, which was 58,000 less than last year.

The ministry said that the main objective of the correctional campaign was to end the menace of irregular and illegal workers that affected the market negatively. The campaign’s other important aspect is to increase job opportunities for Saudis.
