Inspection teams from the Ministry of Trade and Industry have shut down two factories for manufacturing adulterated iron in Riyadh.

The discovery was made during an examination of the samples, which revealed that the products did not comply with Saudi specifications and quality standards deeming them unfit to be used for construction. The ministry summoned the officials in charge of the said factories to investigate further and to take legal actions against them.

The ministry seized more than 3,000 tons of iron worth over SR7 million. The adulterated iron was later chopped into small pieces and melted in preparation for recycling.

This move came as part of comprehensive campaign jointly carried out by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Authority, which aims to target all iron factories in all regions of the Kingdom and verify the conformity of the production lines with the requirements needed, as well as identify any attempts to cheat consumers.

The ministry said it will continue the inspection tours to factories, warehouses, and commercial establishments, to ensure their compliance with its regulations.

The ministry also stressed that it will not tolerate any fraudulent practices and will strictly apply sanctions on violators and those involved in any fraud and counterfeiting practice that may put the health and safety of consumers at risk.

All consumers are encouraged to report their complaints and observations through the communications center of the ministry by calling the toll-free number (1900).
