Three people were killed and seven injured when their cars hit a herd of camels near Abqaiq on Thursday evening.

The three cars were nearing the Dhahran Al-Qarya intersection when a herd of camels suddenly appeared in the middle of the road. The cars failed to stop in time and hit 15 camels.

The three victims were stuck in the car they were traveling in and died of burn injuries when the vehicle caught fire, while the injured suffered fractures, bruises, cuts and external bleeding.

The injured were taken by Civil Defense and Red Crescent officials to King Fahd Medical Center in Dhahran and Abqaiq General Hospital. The three bodies were taken to a hospital in Abqaiq.

There were six — five Koreans and an Indian — in the first car. An Indian and Nepalese were in the second car while the third car had two Pakistanis. In related news, one man was killed and 10 people were injured in an accident in the Beesha governorate on Saturday.

Ahmed Ibrahim Asiri, spokesperson of the Saudi Red Crescent in Asir, said the accident happened on Bisha’s Al-Alaya Road near Rania intersection.
