Half a million pay tributes to Prince Saud on Twitter

The hashtag (#Saud_Faisal) led the Twitter website with more than 500,000 tweets a few hours after the announcement of his death.

A large number of politicians, celebrities and journalists commemorated Prince Saud Al-Faisal. Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir beseeched God to have mercy on the soul of the prince who will be missed by the Arab and Islamic nation. Bahraini Foreign Minister Khaled bin Ahmad described his death as a great loss to the nation.

At the local level Princess Haifa bint Abdulaziz said Prince Saud was respected even in his death. Fahad Al-Orabi Al-Harithi said: “Saddam Hussein … didn’t hesitate to say ‘I have never known anyone as clever as Saud Al-Faisal; he made the world stand by me during my war against Iran, and against me when I entered Kuwait’.”

Mohammad Al-Areefi prayed for the soul of Saud Al-Faisal. Yasir Al-Qahtani, the football player, commiserated with the nation over the loss of the prince.

Kuwaiti writer Sadiya Mefreh consoled the Saudi and Arab nations for the death of the Prince Saud, saying he was a pillar of Arab diplomacy.

Egyptian journalist Emad Al-Din Adeeb said he was the cleverest man he had ever met, while Ayman Sayyad said Al-Faisal spent 40 years in diplomacy and history; he lived through Camp David, the occupation of Kuwait and the fall of Baghdad then the Arab Spring.
