Under the patronage of Abdul Latif Al-Zayani, secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Federation of GCC Chambers will be organizing the closing ceremony of the 2nd Gulf campaign for the “GCC Inventors 2014” in Riyadh on Monday.

The program, which is being organized in cooperation with the UN-ESCWA Technology Center, the International Federation of Inventors and the Patent Office Gulf Invention, received 2,800 patents application last year from inventors based within the GCC, of which 480 were approved.

The head of the GCC Patent Office, Shaya bin Ali Shaya, said at the launching of the campaign earlier this year that eight percent of the applicants were GCC nationals.

On this occasion, Al-Zayani stressed the GCC’s keenness to follow up on the implementation of the resolution of the Supreme Economic Council (SEC) last session, which was held recently in Doha, in which they recommended the need to support the businesses and young entrepreneurs that would eventually contribute to further economic development in GCC countries.

He reaffirmed the GCC’s efforts to help youth realize their aspirations by organizing events, workshops, meetings, training courses, and interaction with their international counterparts.

He said that this requires the support of business leaders to bolster efforts to create mechanisms for their businesses. “We have to motivate them to continue their innovation, creativity and excellence in these critical areas of the Gulf economy,” he said, adding that opportunities have become favorable for both young males and females in the Gulf to build the economic future of the GCC.

The GCC seeks to transform its member countries into creative states, and seeks to help them realize their ambitions by encouraging talented youth to produce innovative products.
